The cold front arrived with a low of 49 degrees this morning, but the threatening clouds have been replaced by clear blue sky.  After breakfast we headed ashore in the dinghy to hike through the campground area.

We hiked across the peninsula to get a good look at the bay and determine if we could head south.  The winds were still very strong and the seas were 2-3 ft and total whitecaps, so we will sit tight again today knowing the winds are predicted to subside this afternoon.

Seeing  wild turkey in the woods completed our hike through the park which is absolutely beautiful with over 600 wooded campsites, bike paths, hiking trails and the beach.

By the afternoon the sun had warmed the day and the beach area came alive.  The campers were out enjoying all the campground has to offer.

Ron took advantage of the sunny day to wash down the hulls of the boat and chat with kayakers as they passed.  The winds have calmed, but Ron decided we would wait until tomorrow morning to leave.

YESTERDAY

The thunderstorms began about 3:00 am bringing lots of rain, high winds, lightening and     rumbling thunder just as the meteorologist had promised.  The bands of showers and winds  continued across upper Lake Michigan most of the morning bringing a cold front our way.  Our view was totally different today; the beach was empty, no kayakers, no swimmers and no boats at the launch ramp.  We were comfortable in our anchorage in Nicolet Bay, but the big bay was churning with whitecaps so we had a lazy day to relax and read.
