We knew we were in for a good day when this rainbow greeted us at six o’clock this morning.  We raised anchor and headed south to Green Bay, home of the Cheese Heads.

The winds were light, but filled the scheecher as we surfed off the following seas.  We covered 50 miles before we passed the Green Bay Lighthouse and approached the bridge on the Fox River.  As soon as we were settled in our slip at the Green Bay Yacht Club, we called a cab to take us to Lambeau Field.  We aren’t really Cheese Heads, but Green Bay has a strong football  history so, why not take a tour.

The original team was called ACME Packers,   sponsored by a local meat packing plant.  In 1919 when the team wanted to buy an NFL franchise, it sold shares to raise capital.  It is still publically owned creating an amazing fan base with 100,000 names on the waiting list to buy season tickets - there are no single-game tickets sold.

The Packers Hall of Fame chronicled the history, coaches Curley Lambeau and Vince Lombardi, quarterbacks Bart Starr and Brett Favre, and the thirteen championship teams.  We sat in a 18-seater skybox which can be bought for $84,500 a year, walked through the player’s tunnel onto the field and toured behind the scenes.

The best part of the day was talking to all six grandkids to wish them luck tomorrow as they return to school.

 Yesterday - August 18th

Last night the sunset provided a nice end to the day and we had high hopes for good weather for a travel day.  The winds were lighter this morning, but after a couple of hours we decided the seas on our beam were just too uncomfortable and pulled into Egg Harbor.  We had hoped to just spend a few hours, allow the seas to calm, then continue on our way.

The weather gods were not with us;  the whitecaps  continued to build, then later in the afternoon a band of strong thunderstorms rolled across with winds of 25-30 m.p.h.   So .  .  . We stayed at anchor in Egg Harbor for the night with high hopes for better weather tomorrow.
