Strong winds of 25kts still had the bay churning with whitecaps and the lake buoy showed seas at 5.2 ft.  We were lucky to be in the quiet harbor and be able to enjoy the Heritage Days activities of the Fayette Historic State Park.  We hiked the bluff trail again trying to get more than 1 bar on the phone so we could connect to the internet and post the blog.  No luck, but at least we had a nice walk and enjoyed the forest and the views.  We helped the bakery group set up their tent and tables, which was challenging with the winds, giving us a preview of the baked goodies.  We felt obligated to return later in the day to sample the cookies and pie—just wanted to support the program.

The local blacksmith learned his trade from his father and grandfather, sharing his knowledge with the crowd.  The horse-drawn wagon ride with 16 people aboard was fun and interesting.  The best event was an audience participation historical presentation through music and song by an former teacher.  By the end of the show, every person in the room had been transported back to the year 1880 and was well informed about the every life of the iron smelting town of Fayette and the ethnic diversity of the people.  It was a high energy performance which included props and   musical instruments including bagpipes.  Our day was rounded out by old-fashioned sack races for the kids and a meal of fried white fish.

Late in the day a 62’ motor yacht pulled into the harbor thankful there was room on the dock since they had been in 4-6 foot seas all day.  A great day ended with a group from four boats viewing the amazing skies at 10:45 pm.  With no street lights, the visibility was exceptional and the Milky Way was the star performer accompanied by shooting stars—what a show!
