Road Trip to The Big Easy
|
Nawlins here we come! On the way into the city, by car, we drove by the Michoud plant where Ron worked for Boeing as a co-op student while attending the University of Florida. When we were first married, Ron was on a work quarter so we lived in The Big Easy for three months before returning to Gainesville.
We were glad to see the huge oak trees survived the intrusion of sea water after Katrina.
As we approached the Quarter, closed roads, construction, and crazy drivers reminded us it was time to find the parking garage and continue on foot.
Lunch was at Le Bayou on Bourbon Street: Baked Bayou Oysters and a sampler of gumbo, crawfish etouffee, and jambalaya. Oh yes, you can get good food in New Orleans!
Needing to work off the calories, we took off on a walking tour enjoying the beautiful old iron railings, street lights and famous historic places.
We ended our afternoon at Jackson Square before checking into our hotel.
