Dawn broke before six o’clock and I was out on deck in time to  capture some reflective photos.  We stayed at anchor until after seven to allow the time to ease the chill.

The skies were gray and cloudy—even the heron were huddled down against the cold.

The Mobile River was wide today and the shores were lined with  Cypress Trees and their familiar knees.

The current was strong and we made good time, especially since there were no locks to transit.

There were a couple of power plants on shore and we passed tugs with barges filled with coal.  There were only a few fish-camp type homes on the banks, simple but looked like they belong on the river.

By early afternoon we had arrived at the creek know as Big Bayou Canot.  It was narrow so we  anchored close to one shore using both bow and stern anchors to eliminate swing. Just before dark, the bass boats came by returning to the boat ramp—we lost count after 25 boats passed!

So many seagulls—can salt water be far away?

Happy Birthday to my brother, James, in Oregon!
