Last Day in Mobile

The courtesy car was available at seven o’clock this morning so we headed to the grocery store and propane station.  Loaded down with supplies we managed to pack everything away then had breakfast.  The cold front moved in overnight and we were glad to be at a dock with our heat running.  It was a challenge to get off the boat this morning since the tide was very low with a strong north wind blowing.
Several of the boaters who live on the rivers, were a little concerned about this tide thing that they need to learn about.  This is there first experience with saltwater, tides and currents.

We spent several hours with charts, online navigation guides and research tools planning the next couple of weeks.  Most of the boaters are anxious to move on and put the gulf crossing  behind them.  We find ourselves in the opposite mode—wanting to slow down as our journey’s end nears.

Unable to procrastinate any longer, we set to work to organize and clean the boat.  Jean worked inside and Ron worked outside.  By the day’s end we were happy to once again have an organized, clean environment!

We talked with Betty today, making arrangements to meet she and Marc when we arrive in Pensacola.  KatMan2 is home in Gulf Breeze, so we will share some time with them before we move on.

Word was passed along the docks to meet for a pot luck   dinner at five-thirty.  About thirty-five people joined in and shared dishes.  There was plenty of food and we all  commented that we had eaten too much.

Several boats are leaving tomorrow, mostly headed east, but some are going to New Orleans and Texas. This has been a great place to stay for a few days, meeting friends, sharing meals, and comparing notes.

MONDAY, NOVEMBER 12th

It rained all morning in advance of another cold front.  We had great plans for today—cleaning, laundry, provisioning-instead we read and napped!  The courtesy car was not available, high winds were predicted for today and tomorrow, so we put off the chores and made a lazy day of it.  I did manage to wash clothes from the weekend, and Ron changed oil filters and coolant, but otherwise we took it easy.

We discovered that several more looper boats arrived at this marina while we were in New     Orleans.  Three boats were hauled today due to prop damage and repairs are underway.  Most boaters seem to have agreed on one more weather day here before heading east toward Florida.

After dinner a small group gathered on the dock for music—three boaters had their guitars and entertained the rest of us.
