You would have laughed out loud at the two of this morning.  We were headed north  in the Minim Canal when we began to see pods of dolphin.  Before the show was over, we saw 75-100 in groups of 3-5.  You would have thought we grew up in Utah and had never seen bottlenose dolphin in our lives.  We took turns steering and sitting on the bow to enjoy the action.  At one point a dolphin surfaced no more than 3 feet away—they were rolling and literally jumping out the water.  I have never seen such a high concentration of dolphin in my life.

Most of our day was on the Waccamaw River and the landscape has totally changed.  Instead of marsh lowlands we are now surrounded by thick Cypress forest draped with moss.  The river is wide, the color of tea, with a flowing current and absolutely beautiful.

Osprey have been flying overhead and gliding on the air currents.

At 4:00 we pulled into a little oxbow off the river and nestled in among the cypress trees with a gentle wind and  current.  It’s very quiet except for the chirping of the birds.

Tomorrow we will go into Myrtle Beach which is about 21 miles away.  Have a good night!

  1. Bob and I were just in Myrtle Beach for the first time a few weeks ago. We pretty much stayed near the beach so it will be interesting to see where you venture off to...

  2. The only thing that could be better than reading about your dolphin encounter would've been to be there to share it with you.
