Total Miles:    1,271   Location:        Norfolk, VA  /  Waterside Sheraton Marina

Breakfast and morning sessions began at 8:30 at the Sheraton with almost 200 boaters attending.  It appears about 50 of the attendees are in the planning stage, seeking guidance and eager to hear wonderful stories about the loop to garner the courage to take the leap themselves.  The old salts who have completed the loop once, twice, three times are here to encourage all of us currently on the loop and share their knowledge of the Chesapeake, Hudson River, Erie Canal, Georgian Bay, etc.

We will leave you with more photos from historic Norfolk .  .  .

Epworth United Methodist - 1893

Right:
The Freemason Street Baptist Church (1848) was designed by Thomas I. Walter, the architect of the U.S. Capital Dome.

In 1680 the town survey dedicated land for a church and graveyard where St. Paul’s Episcopal Church now stands.  The original church was built in 1739, bombarded by the British in 1776 with only the walls remaining, and rebuilt in 1832.  The funeral for General Douglas MacArthur was held here in 1964.  There are many graves of soldiers who fought in the Revolutionary War and the Civil War.

  2. Question: Of the 150 or so at the meeting that are not in the planning stage, how many are like you two, actually in progress on the Loop right now?
