The Great Loop conference is going well - we are learning lots of details and meeting great boaters.  The presentationshave included Cheaspeake Bay, Delaware Bay, New York, Hudson River, The Erie Canal, The Trent Severn Waterway and Georgian Bay.  The photos would make anyone want to Loop, and the shared expertise of the various kinds of locks, anchorages and where to get the best crabcakes was priceless.

The Nauticus Museum proved to be interesting and informative.  It is partly a maritime museum and partly an oceanographic science museum.  The theater presented The Living Ocean and we were able to operate the robotic arm/claw of a Remote Operated Vehicle (ROV).

This exhibit was a real-time interactive NOAA    satellite/weather data projected onto a sphere.  We could watch time-lapsed cloud coverage, rainfall, surface temperatures, ice cap melt and reform, and earthquake events.  It was fascinating—we need one of these on the boat!

The first battleship Wisconsin was commissioned in 1901 and the wooden decks served as a platform for John Philip Souza and the marine corps to perform patriotic marches.  The current U.S.S. Wisconsin, all 898 feet of her,  served in WWII, Korean War, Cold War and Persian Gulf War.  It is the last of the four Iowa Class battleships.

Factoids:
· Each anchor chain link weighs 120 pounds.
· Each anchor weighs 7,500 pounds.
· One 16” shell weighs as much as a Volkswagon Beetle—1,930 pounds
· These guns deliver the shells up to 24 miles.
