We have talked to experienced Loopers, seen presentations of each leg of the journey, watched slideshows, heard wonderful adventures, heard horror stories; now it is just time for us to move on and experience our own journey.

Took advantage of a free taxi to the grocery store to  provision for the next week or two.  We said goodbye to Norfolk and headed north into Chesapeake Bay.  The Norfolk Harbor is controlled chaos with Navy vessels, ferries, tugboats, container vessels and pleasure craft.

We gave the commercial vessels plenty of room and as we exited the harbor we had a view of the wide-open Chesapeake which is almost 20 miles wide.

Jean made a pot of chili while underway.
Anchorage for the night is in a little cove up the Back River next to our new friends Marc and Betty Johnston who also own a Gemini, Kat Man 2.
They rowed over in their dinghy for drinks and a toast to the sunset.
